I was walking to work in the dark yesterday morning and was followed by a police officer pretty much the entire distance. Now, this in a neighborhood where idling cop cars at 4am is not unusual, so I didn’t think anything of it at first. But after I had gone about half a mile, turned a corner, and crossed an intersection, it didn’t seem so coincidental anymore- he’d stop in the middle of the road for awhile, I’d walk a few blocks, then he’d pull forward a few streets ahead, and eventually my walking would catch me up to where he was. I finally got creeped out enough to go up to him and ask what was going on. He seems surprised.

“Good morning officer! Everything ok?”

“I think so. What’s your name?”

“Shannon. Something wrong?” (First name only; I’m a good civil libertarian)

“Oh, no, uh… you… match someone’s description…” He gestures weakly at the LCD panel in the cruiser.

“…ah, ok. Well, I’m going to go make some bagels now.” I point up the street since I’m almost to work by this point.

“Ok, have a good one.”

So it doesn’t count as getting stopped by the cops if you’re the one that stops them when they’re acting suspicious, right? wtf?
